227- Martin Creed

Martin Creed is a performance artist whose work is very famous and well known. Instead of giving his work names he assigns them number. The piece in particular that interests me is number 227 and it was done in 2000 at the Tate in Britain. His body is not directly involved in the piece but the piece involves him turning the lights on and off in a gallery room in 5 second intervals. . . . . . . . ... The piece was highly criticized but even despite the criticism it won many awards. Viewers were very confused at the simplicity of the piece. It is done in a gallery space that you walk into and nothing is shown but the empty white walls of the space. He then precedes to turn the lights on and off. It is not difficult to document the piece, although it is not documented much because there is a lack of visual aspects to it.
